I always feel a degree of apprehension when I’m first out at daybreak. It’s always special to have the surf to yourself but is it friend or foe that waits for you beyond the breakers.
This morning, as usual, it was my friends. I’m sure they weren’t alone but the immediate interest was from two adults (I’m guessing female) and one dolphin calf. For an hour they swam around where I was floating. Far enough away to be out of harms way but close enough to check me out. I was immediately at ease.
The accompanying images represent a direction I would like to take my ocean photography. I can’t deny their basis is surfing related but I specifically want to convey the mood and aesthetics of the activity.
If I am going to cover actual surfing I am not as concerned with high impact, peak action images as to those that portray the activity in a more true sense. Real people participating in the lifestyle.
For the last 15 months I have spent time on coastlines that boast size and power. Next week I hope to start on another phase. I’m not sure what to call it but crystal comes to mind. Lets see what I can do.
Enjoy
